Senior SoC Physical Design Engineer
QualcommJob Title
Senior SoC Physical Design Engineer
Role Summary
Deliver and own physical design implementation and signoff for system-on-chip (SoC) products, focusing on power, performance, and manufacturability. Work on floorplanning, clock tree synthesis, place-and-route, PDN, timing closure, and physical verification at block and chip level.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to produce schedules, drive to tapeout signoff, and contribute to design reviews and methodology development.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Years of experience not specified in the posting.
Responsibilities
Core responsibilities include the end-to-end physical design flow and verification for high-speed SoC designs.
- Perform floorplanning, clock tree synthesis (CTS), place-and-route, and PDN planning.
- Drive timing analysis and timing closure across blocks and full-chip.
- Implement power-optimization techniques and analyze power-performance tradeoffs.
- Run and interpret physical verification checks (LVS, DRC, DFM/DFY) at block and chip levels.
- Provide schedules, coordinate cross-functional engineering activities, and support tapeout signoff.
- Participate actively in design reviews and project meetings as a technical contributor.
Requirements
Key qualifications and skills expected for successful candidates.
- Proven experience with SoC physical design flows and signoff for complex chips (floorplanning, CTS, P&R, PDN, timing closure).
- Experience with physical verification flows and design-for-manufacturing/yield practices (LVS, DRC, DFM).
- Ability to analyze power, performance, and area trade-offs and apply optimization techniques.
- Track record of driving schedules and coordinating cross-functional teams to achieve tapeout milestones.
- Strong communication skills; effective contributor in design reviews and technical meetings.
- Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced engineering environment and supporting signoff activities.
Education Requirements
Will accept a Master's degree (or foreign academic equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. The posting does not specify acceptance of equivalent practical experience in lieu of the degree.
