Senior Site Reliability Engineer - Kubernetes Platform
NVIDIAJob Title
Senior Site Reliability Engineer - Kubernetes Platform
Role Summary
Own and scale a Kubernetes platform that supports NVIDIA's chip-design (EDA) workloads across multiple on-prem datacenters and public clouds. The role focuses on operating large, stateful, license-constrained workloads where reliability directly affects chip tapeout schedules.
Experience Level
Senior - role expects experienced engineers. The posting indicates approximately 8+ years building and supporting critical production services.
Responsibilities
Key operational and platform responsibilities for multi-site, multi-cloud Kubernetes used by EDA workloads.
- Own Kubernetes clusters end-to-end: planning, delivery, upgrades, day‑2 operations, and decommissioning across on-prem and managed cloud Kubernetes.
- Define and implement multi-cluster lifecycle strategy: version skew policy, patch cadence, node image pipelines, controlled rollouts, and safe upgrade mechanics.
- Unify on-prem and cloud Kubernetes into a single platform with consistent APIs, policy, and observability.
- Drive Infrastructure-as-Code and GitOps practices; minimize manual cluster changes.
- Design for failure: define fault domains, contain blast radius, enable progressive delivery and disciplined change control.
- Build end-to-end observability (metrics, logs, traces, events) and enable data-driven and auto-healing operations.
- Participate in on-call rotations, lead incident response, perform root cause analysis, and publish actionable RCAs.
- Partner with EDA, storage, network, and data center operations teams to implement reliable, scalable deployments.
- Interface directly with internal tenants to drive operational improvements and faster, more reliable outcomes.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience. Education details are listed separately below.
Must-have
- Deep, hands-on Kubernetes operations experience (debugging etcd, kubelet, CNI, CSI, scheduler, API server, container runtime, control-plane failures).
- Production experience with managed cloud Kubernetes (EKS/GKE/OpenShift/etc.) and its upgrade/network/IAM model.
- Production experience operating self-managed Kubernetes on-prem across multiple datacenters, including bare-metal and GPU node lifecycle.
- Strong command of CI/CD and Infrastructure-as-Code tools (Terraform, Ansible, Helm, Kustomize, Argo CD/Flux or equivalents).
- Experience building large-scale platform features: host lifecycle automation, fleet reliability, auto-healing, or AIOps that reduced operational toil.
- Proficiency with monitoring and log tooling (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Loki/ELK, containerd, etc.).
- 5+ years coding/scripting for automation and operational management in at least two languages such as Go, Python, Perl, or Ruby; Go is a strong plus.
- Track record mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction; strong written communication and debugging skills.
Nice-to-have
- Familiarity with EDA/silicon-design workflows, license management, or license-constrained compute environments.
- Experience implementing Kubernetes controllers, operators, admission webhooks, scheduler plugins, or device/CSI plugins in production.
- Experience running stateful, storage-heavy, or GPU-accelerated workloads at scale on Kubernetes.
- Published technical write-ups, talks, or maintainer roles for open-source components used in production.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. The posting specifies ~8+ years building and supporting critical production services as the expected experience level and explicitly allows equivalent experience in place of a degree.
