NVIDIAJob Title
System Software Engineering Intern, GPU and SoC - Summer 2027
Role Summary
Join a GPU software team to implement and validate low-level system software for next-generation GPU chips and SoC platforms. Work areas include GPU kernel drivers, SoC platform software, firmware interfaces, performance and power management, and related system software tooling.
This is a hands-on internship focused on development, bring-up, simulation, and validation across hardware-software integration tasks; projects may touch platform security, confidential computing, AI-related system software, or developer productivity tooling.
Experience Level
Entry-level internship for students currently enrolled in a university program. Practical experience via projects or prior internships is beneficial.
Responsibilities
Typical responsibilities for assigned internship projects include:
- Design, implement, and verify features for GPU chips and SoC platforms, collaborating with hardware architects and cross-functional engineers.
- Contribute to early modeling, simulation, bring-up, and validation activities required for product delivery.
- Develop and enhance low-level system software: kernel drivers, firmware interfaces, platform software, performance features, and power management.
- Perform system-level debugging, root-cause analysis, and stability/performance troubleshooting on complex hardware/software stacks.
- Support project work across core GPU kernel software, SoC platform software, or adjacent system-software areas as needed.
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with geographically distributed teams throughout the product lifecycle.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- Strong programming skills in C and C++.
- Experience or familiarity with low-level driver development and system software on x86, ARM, or SoC platforms.
- Understanding of computer architecture, operating system fundamentals, microprocessors, and microcontrollers.
- Familiarity with Linux, Android, ChromeOS, or Windows kernel and system software environments.
- Ability to perform system-level debugging, root-cause analysis, and performance or stability troubleshooting.
Nice-to-have:
- Exposure to platform security, confidential computing, or secure software design.
- Interest or experience with AI/ML workflows, AI infrastructure, or AI-assisted tooling for development and debugging.
- Background in GPU/SoC architecture, device drivers, memory management, firmware, power management, and performance tuning.
- Experience with large-scale build/test flows, embedded or RTOS environments, and cross-platform development.
Education Requirements
Currently pursuing a BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
