Senior Silicon Photonics Test Engineer (NPI)
LumilensJob Title
Senior Silicon Photonics Test Engineer (NPI)
Role Summary
Lead development of wafer-level opto-electrical test solutions for Near-Package Optics (NPO) and Co-Packaged Optics (CPO) products through New Product Introduction (NPI) into high-volume production. Own the full lifecycle of wafer-level test architecture, validation, production transfer, and ongoing engineering support to meet yield, throughput, and reliability targets.
Experience Level
Senior-level β typically 5+ years of experience in semiconductor or silicon photonics test engineering, with demonstrated NPI-to-production transfer experience.
Responsibilities
Primary ownership of wafer-level test system development and transfer for NPO/CPO products.
- Lead full NPI cycle for wafer-level opto-electrical testing: design, develop, and qualify wafer-level testers and processes.
- Specify and manage tester RFQ process; develop test hardware (wafer probers, optical probe/alignment fixtures, edge/grating coupler interfaces, RF probe cards) and test software (automated sequences, DAQ, high-speed BERT/PAM4 integration).
- Transfer test platforms from NPI to mass production, ensuring repeatability, throughput, optical alignment stability, and reliability at volume.
- Create and document test process flows, work instructions, and operator training materials for optical probing and alignment.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and equipment vendors to qualify testers and optical probers on the production floor.
- Provide ongoing engineering support to diagnose and resolve test-related yield, throughput, or equipment issues.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and proven delivery in wafer-level test development and production transfer.
- 5+ years in semiconductor or silicon photonics test engineering with hands-on wafer-level test development.
- Proven track record of taking test platforms from NPI to high-volume production.
- Experience with wafer-level optical probing/alignment systems (active alignment, fiber array probing) and automated test equipment (ATE).
- Familiarity with high-speed electrical test: SerDes, PAM4/NRZ, BERT and integration into test flows.
- Familiarity with electro-optical instruments: tunable lasers, optical power meters, source meters, network/spectrum analyzers, BERT.
- Experience designing test hardware and software for probers, optical fixtures, RF probe cards, automated sequences, and data acquisition.
- Working knowledge of DOE, SPC, Gauge R&R, and yield/binning analysis methodologies.
Nice-to-have:
- Understanding of silicon photonics PIC characterization.
- Experience with CPO/NPO packaging architecture and thermal/optical co-design constraints.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Photonics, Physics, or a related technical field.
