Senior Silicon Photonics Test Engineer
LumilensJob Title
Senior Silicon Photonics Test Engineer
Role Summary
Hands-on test engineer focused on characterization, test execution, and lab infrastructure for silicon photonics devices and photonic integrated circuits (PICs). Works with design and process teams to validate device performance and support transition from R&D to early production test flows.
Experience Level
Senior; typically 3β7 years of relevant experience in photonics device testing or optical lab work.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include device and PIC characterization, high-speed measurements, test automation, and supporting wafer/die testing.
- Execute device and PIC characterization (EO, OE, OO) at chip and wafer level.
- Set up and run high-speed measurements (bandwidth, BER, eye diagrams).
- Develop and maintain test automation and measurement routines (LabVIEW and/or Python).
- Support wafer probing, optical alignment, fiber handling, and test setup bring-up.
- Troubleshoot and debug test setups and measurement issues.
- Analyze data and provide feedback to design and process teams; support die sorting and yield data collection.
- Assist in transferring R&D test procedures to early production test flows.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and practical experience.
- 3β7 years of relevant experience in photonics device testing or optical lab work.
- Hands-on experience with high-speed measurement equipment (VNA, oscilloscope, BERT) and optical communication basics.
- Working proficiency in LabVIEW and/or Python for test automation; familiarity with instrument control (VISA/SCPI).
- Experience with optical alignment, fiber handling, and wafer probing; ability to build, maintain, and debug lab test setups.
- Detail-oriented and able to execute in a fast-paced environment.
Nice-to-have: experience with PIC-level testing and production test engineering.
Education Requirements
Bachelors degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
