Job Title

Senior Silicon Engineer

Role Summary

Join the Data Processing Unit (DPU) front-end silicon team within Azure Hardware Systems & Infrastructure to deliver high-performance, low-power, scalable and programmable DPU silicon for Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure.

Collaborate with software, design verification, and physical design teams to translate microarchitecture and module designs into production silicon.

Experience Level

Senior. Preferred experience is ~8+ years in RTL and microarchitecture; hiring minimums in the posting align with at least 5+ years technical experience for candidates holding a Bachelor’s degree (higher-degree alternatives and equivalent experience are accepted).

Responsibilities

Design and deliver silicon modules and collaborate across disciplines to implement programmable DPU functionality.

  • Architect and design modules addressing datacenter requirements for DPU silicon.
  • Co-develop microarchitecture and interfaces with software teams for programmable silicon.
  • Partner with design verification and physical design teams to achieve tapeout-ready implementations.
  • Drive designs from concept through implementation and silicon bring-up.
  • Analyze and resolve complex system and microarchitectural issues; optimize for power, performance, and area.

Requirements

Essential qualifications and role conditions.

  • Proven experience delivering complex silicon modules from concept to silicon.
  • Demonstrated collaboration with software, verification, and physical design teams.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft Cloud Background Check and export-control eligibility; candidates must be able to provide proof of citizenship or lawful status as required.
  • Practical experience with microarchitecture, RTL design, and system-level integration.

Nice-to-have:

  • 8+ years of RTL design and microarchitecture experience.
  • Experience designing networking silicon and low-power microarchitecture techniques.
  • Familiarity with Verilog/SystemVerilog, C++, Python, and Perl.

Education Requirements

Doctorate in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (plus 1+ year technical experience), or Master’s in those fields (plus 4+ years), or Bachelor’s in those fields (plus 5+ years), or equivalent practical experience. Preferred: BS/MS in Electrical Engineering.
