Senior Semiconductor Device Engineer
Role Summary
Design and develop semiconductor devices for high-performance pulsed power systems used in Helion’s fusion generators. Work onsite at Helion’s Everett, WA office and report to the Senior Manager of Electrical Engineering.
Focus on rapid development cycles, prototyping, testing, and integration with electrical, mechanical, and physics teams to deliver high-reliability switching components.
Experience Level
Senior — typically requires 8+ years of experience in power electronics and high-voltage semiconductor design.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include device design, prototyping, testing, and cross-functional integration.
- Gather and translate switching-component requirements into physical designs.
- Design and develop novel pulsed-power semiconductor components focused on high efficiency and reliability.
- Lead rapid development cycles: hands-on prototyping, small-scale testing, and large-scale performance validation.
- Run simulations and analyze test data to validate designs and iterate quickly.
- Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and physics teams to ensure system integration.
- Work with semiconductor fabricators to support device manufacturing and transfer to production.
- Document designs, specifications, test procedures, and results for the engineering team.
- Monitor industry trends, materials, and device architectures relevant to pulsed power.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for immediate contribution:
- 8+ years in power electronics and high-voltage semiconductor design.
- Strong foundation in semiconductor physics, power electronics, and circuit design principles.
- Proven experience with rapid prototyping and iterative development in high-tech environments.
- Experience collaborating with semiconductor fabricators and supporting device manufacturing.
- Proficiency with simulation tools and test equipment used for power electronics design and validation.
- Ability to work onsite in Everett, WA and lead cross-functional technical efforts.
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s, Master’s, or higher degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field.
