Job Title
Senior Security IP Engineer
Role Summary
Design and deliver hardware security IP from architecture through silicon validation for Microsoft cloud servers. The role works across SoC, firmware, verification, physical design and product teams to implement cryptographic accelerators, root-of-trust, secure boot, and key-management solutions.
Expect to drive PPA optimization, lead design signoff activities, resolve pre- and post-silicon issues, and mentor engineers to improve design quality and automation.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Preferred 8+ years of hardware design experience; proven track record owning complex security IP and driving silicon bring-up.
Responsibilities
The core responsibilities include:
- Own end-to-end development of security IP from architecture and microarchitecture definition through silicon validation.
- Collaborate with architecture, SoC, firmware, verification, and physical design teams to deliver integrated IP solutions.
- Develop high-performance, power-efficient RTL and drive PPA optimization during the design lifecycle.
- Lead design signoff activities: CDC, RDC, LINT, synthesis, STA, and timing closure.
- Implement and integrate hardware security functions (cryptographic accelerators, root-of-trust, secure boot, key management).
- Drive pre-silicon and post-silicon debug, silicon bring-up, and root-cause analysis of complex system issues.
- Mentor and review designs, promote automation and continuous methodology improvements.
Requirements
Technical and screening requirements. Must-haves are listed first; preferred skills follow.
Must-have:
- Proficiency in RTL design and verification practices; strong experience with Verilog/SystemVerilog.
- Experience with CDC, RDC, LINT closure, synthesis, static timing analysis and timing closure.
- Ability to drive PPA (performance, power, area) tradeoffs and optimizations.
- Experience in pre-silicon and post-silicon bring-up and root-cause analysis.
- Ability to meet Microsoft Cloud Background Check and other security screening requirements.
- Ability to meet export-control requirements and provide documentation of citizenship/residency as required for access to export-controlled information.
Nice-to-have:
- Scripting proficiency (Python, Perl) for automation.
- Experience with AMBA AXI and other industry bus interfaces.
- Experience with cryptographic standards (AES, SHA, ECC) and implementing crypto accelerators.
- Experience with advanced process nodes (5 nm or newer) and basic floorplanning/physical-design engagement.
- Experience mentoring teams and leading design-quality reviews.
Education Requirements
Doctorate (PhD) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (with 1+ years technical experience) OR Master's degree in those fields (with 4+ years technical experience) OR Bachelor's degree in those fields (with 5+ years technical experience) OR equivalent practical experience.
