Senior Security Engineer (Research)

Role Summary

Join Arm's architecture security team in Cambridge to perform security analysis, vulnerability research, and validation for architecture specifications across CPU, software, and system domains. You will work with architects, researchers and implementation teams to identify, analyze and mitigate security risks and to produce security validation collateral.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities focus on threat analysis, vulnerability research, and producing validation artefacts for architecture specifications and related implementations.

  • Perform threat modeling, vulnerability analysis, and security risk assessments of architecture specifications (CPU, software, system).
  • Collaborate with architecture, implementation, and vulnerability-research teams to improve security posture.
  • Develop and maintain documentation of security risk analyses and mitigations.
  • Design and influence security validation test plans for hardware and firmware.
  • Investigate vulnerabilities across architecture spec, RTL, and silicon; develop PoCs and exploits where required.
  • Communicate progress and findings through reviews, status updates, and cross-site meetings.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experiences required for the role.

  • Strong understanding of security principles, threat modelling, vulnerability analysis, and security risk assessment.
  • Proven experience in computer security applied to hardware/software architectures (vulnerability research, PoCs, exploits, published research or CTF participation).
  • Knowledge of computer architecture (preferably Arm) and operating system fundamentals.
  • Proficiency with programming in Python and C/C++; familiarity with assembly language.
  • Self-motivated, proactive problem solver with strong communication and collaboration skills.

Nice-to-have

  • Knowledge of micro-architectural attacks and side-channel analysis.
  • Reverse-engineering experience.
  • Familiarity with bus protocols such as AMBA, CXL, PCIe.
