Job Title
Senior RTL Design Engineer
Role Summary
As a Senior RTL Design Engineer on Google's silicon team in Mountain View, you will design and integrate RTL for custom silicon subsystems and IP blocks to meet performance, area, and power targets. The role partners with verification, validation, and physical-design teams to deliver production-quality ASICs for consumer products.
Experience Level
Senior β aligns with the posting requirement of approximately 10+ years of relevant experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include microarchitecture specification, RTL implementation, integration, verification support, and cross-team technical alignment.
- Define microarchitecture specifications for silicon subsystems and IP to meet performance, area, and power goals.
- Integrate internal and external IP blocks into multi-component silicon designs and subsystems.
- Write production-grade RTL, debug simulation issues, and perform verification checks.
- Collaborate with validation teams on test plans, coverage analysis, and chip-level verification.
- Drive technical alignment across multidisciplinary engineering groups to resolve architectural issues and ensure product delivery.
Requirements
Required qualifications for immediate contribution are listed first; preferred skills follow.
Must-have:
- Approximately 10 years' experience in IP development or integration.
- ASIC development experience using Verilog or VHDL.
- Proficiency with a scripting language such as Python or Perl.
- Experience producing production-grade RTL and debugging simulation/verification issues.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with CDC, reset checks, and low-power design methodologies.
- Familiarity with processor cores, interconnects (buses/fabric/NoC), debug/trace, interrupts, and clock/reset architectures.
- Understanding of ASIC verification, DFT, synthesis, STA, and physical design.
- Experience with FPGA and emulation platforms and high-performance/low-power trade-offs.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Master's degree or PhD in those fields is listed as preferred.
