Senior RTL Design Engineer
Role Summary
Design and implement microarchitectural features and ISA extensions for high-performance CPU core generators. Work across architecture, RTL implementation, verification, physical design optimization, and performance modeling to deliver tapeout-ready CPU subsystems.
Experience Level
Senior — typically 8+ years of industry experience in high-performance, energy-efficient CPU design.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include architecture, RTL implementation, verification coordination, and cross-team collaboration to meet performance, area, and power targets.
- Architect, design, and implement new features, performance improvements, and ISA extensions in CPU core generators.
- Develop and document microarchitecture specifications; participate in collaborative design reviews.
- Perform initial sandbox verification and coordinate with verification teams to develop and execute verification plans.
- Collaborate with physical implementation teams to optimize for frequency, area, and power.
- Work with performance modeling teams to explore design trade-offs and meet performance goals.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience.
- 8+ years of recent industry experience in high-performance, energy-efficient CPU designs.
- Expertise in one or more CPU areas: instruction fetch/decode, branch prediction, register renaming/instruction scheduling, scalar/vector execution units, load-store units, cache and memory subsystems.
- Proficiency in hardware (RTL) design using Verilog, SystemVerilog, or VHDL.
- Proven track record of CPU development from architecture through tapeout.
- Familiarity with at least one object-oriented and/or functional programming language.
- Attention to detail, high-quality design focus, and strong collaboration skills.
Nice-to-have:
- Knowledge of RISC-V architecture.
- Experience with Scala and/or Chisel.
Education Requirements
MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
