Senior RFIC Design Engineer
Role Summary
Design RF switches, LNAs and RFICs for front-end modules across GaAs, SOI, SiGe and CMOS processes. Work with marketing, internal and external module designers, and cross-functional teams to develop designs from concept through characterization and production readiness.
Primary focus is on delivering cost-effective, high-performance front-end solutions by leading design, measurement, integration and production-transfer activities.
Experience Level
Senior - typically requires 6+ years of experience in switch/RF IC design.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Define switch/LNA/RF IC specifications with marketing and module designers.
- Design, layout and evaluate laminates to support switch/RF IC characterization and development.
- Perform RF measurements, troubleshoot setups, and validate designs using VNAs and spectrum analyzers.
- Collaborate with internal and external teams (switch/LNA/filter/module teams) to integrate RFICs into modules and advise on technical tradeoffs.
- Lead production readiness tasks: device characterization, production test plan development, and yield optimization support.
- Engage with modeling and tool providers to improve simulation predictability and tool accuracy.
- Support remote engineering teams and independently execute to aggressive schedules.
Requirements
Required skills and experience:
Must-have:
- 6+ years of experience in switch and RF IC design.
- Hands-on experience simulating RFICs in Cadence and Agilent ADS.
- Experience with HFSS and EM simulators (e.g., Momentum).
- Experience designing GaAs, Silicon or SiGe based switches, LNAs or RFICs.
- Experience designing laminates for evaluation and characterization of RFICs.
- Advanced measurement skills for small-signal and linearity testing using VNAs and spectrum analyzers; ability to troubleshoot measurement issues.
- Experience with front-end modules and integrating RFICs into module-level designs.
- Proven ability to work independently, support remote teams, and meet tight schedules.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience working with filters and module-level filter integration.
- Experience developing production test plans and supporting yield optimization.
Education Requirements
Required: B.S. in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) with a focus on RF design. M.S. in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) preferred.
