Job Title

Senior RF Filter Design Engineer

Role Summary

Design and develop BAW and SAW filtering components and RF front-end modules for mobile wireless applications. Collaborate with RF device, process, test and product teams to take designs from feasibility and simulation through characterization and production transfer.

Posted base salary range: $115,600 - $150,500 (relevant for the California Bay Area; actual compensation may vary by candidate location).

Experience Level

Senior β€” typical experience guidance: BSEE with 5+ years; MSEE with 2–3 years; or PhD with relevant industry or academic experience.

Responsibilities

Primary duties include design, simulation, evaluation and transfer of RF filter devices.

  • Develop BAW and SAW filtering components for state-of-the-art wireless RF applications.
  • Perform feasibility studies and competitive technical analyses to define new products.
  • Design microwave-acoustic devices (bandpass, ladder, notch, CRF, acoustic-assisted filters).
  • Run acoustic and EM simulations using commercial and internal tools; produce device layouts for photomasks.
  • Collaborate with process and R&D engineers to account for fabrication variations and capabilities.
  • Work with characterization and test engineers to evaluate and diagnose devices using RF/microwave test equipment.
  • Document designs and provide guidance to application, test and product engineering teams for production transfer.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of design flow, methods and cycle time.

Requirements

Technical skills and experience required or preferred (degree details are in Education Requirements below).

  • Must-have: RF circuit design (microwave resonators, filters, couplers, antennas, amplifiers); EM simulation (HFSS or equivalent); layout design and troubleshooting; impedance matching and tuning; filter component evaluation and integration; RF device characterization and system-level measurements.
  • Knowledge of microelectronic fabrication, high-volume manufacturing, statistical analysis and Six Sigma process-improvement methods.
  • Familiarity with front-end radio architecture, communication systems and micro-electronics technology.
  • Preferred / Nice-to-have: Direct BAW or SAW design experience; scripting or MATLAB programming skills; general knowledge of wireless protocols and communication standards.
