Job Title
Senior RF Design Engineer - Modules
Role Summary
Individual contributor responsible for end-to-end design of RF modules (concept through production release) supporting cellular base stations, GPS, radar, satellite, CATV and similar applications. Work is in the Apopka, FL design center on new product introductions and design optimization for performance, yield, reliability and cost.
This role focuses on circuit- and EM-level module design, simulation, prototype characterization, and cross-functional coordination with test, manufacturing and program management.
Experience Level
Senior / Professional. The posting requires advanced RF design experience; the education section specifies MS or PhD plus 2+ years of RF module design experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include technical ownership of RF module projects and delivering NPI targets.
- Own RF module designs from concept to production release, meeting performance, schedule and cost goals.
- Perform circuit-level design and EM simulations for RF sub-systems; develop impedance matching networks and chain analysis to ensure first-pass success.
- Create 3D circuit models in EM tools and translate between model, physical implementation and measured performance.
- Characterize prototypes and product samples with test engineering; lead design optimization for performance, yield, reliability and cost.
- Prepare and present technical documentation and reviews internally and to customers; support technical proposals.
- Collaborate with project managers, manufacturing and cross-functional teams to meet project milestones.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; separates preferred items where applicable.
-
Must-have: Solid fundamentals in RF/microwave module design including circuit and EM simulations; experience with RF building blocks (LNAs, PAs, RF switches, attenuators, filters).
- Proficiency with RF simulation tools such as Keysight ADS and HFSS and familiarity with multilayer laminate/PCB layout.
- Strong practical knowledge of impedance matching techniques, implementation and lab tuning.
- Experience creating and validating 3D EM models and translating simulation to measured results.
- Hands-on RF test experience for noise, S-parameters, linearity and lab equipment (VNA, spectrum analyzer, oscilloscopes).
- Experience with IPD (Integrated Passive Device) die design for baluns, couplers, etc.
- Good written and oral communication skills and ability to work across engineering, product management and manufacturing teams.
-
Nice-to-have: MMIC/MMW experience (GaAs HBT, PHEMT, GaN, RF SOI), multi-chip module (MCM) packaging/process knowledge, AWR/Cadence tool exposure, and Python/Matlab programming (ML experience desired).
Education Requirements
MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering or Physics with a focus on RF design/electromagnetics is required, plus 2+ years of RF module design experience.
