Job Title

Senior R&D Engineer, Meshing & Computational Geometry

Role Summary

Work on meshing and computational geometry algorithms and production C++ software used in Synopsys simulation and analysis products. The role is on a small R&D meshing team collaborating with simulation, CAD, and analysis engineers to deliver robust, high-performance meshing technology.

Experience Level

Senior-level. The posting requests 2+ years of hands-on software development experience, or an advanced degree with relevant research/project work.

Responsibilities

Design and implement meshing and geometry-processing components for production simulation tools. Key responsibilities include:

  • Design, develop, and maintain meshing and computational geometry algorithms in C++ for production products.
  • Build and optimize geometric data structures, surface and volume mesh generators, and processing pipelines.
  • Debug geometry-related issues across large codebases, addressing mesh quality, numerical robustness, and algorithm correctness.
  • Translate mathematical and geometric concepts into efficient, maintainable production-quality software.
  • Improve performance, scalability, and robustness of existing meshing components.
  • Collaborate across R&D teams (simulation, CAD, analysis) and contribute to architecture and design decisions.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience:

  • 2+ years of hands-on software development experience (or advanced degree with relevant research/project work).
  • Strong proficiency in C++ for performance-sensitive software.
  • Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design.
  • Experience with geometric algorithms, geometry processing, CAD development, or related areas; experience with meshing and mesh generation is strongly preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and attention to numerical stability and edge cases.
  • Ability to work independently on hard technical problems and to communicate technical tradeoffs clearly to teammates.

Education Requirements

Required: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Computational Geometry, or a related technical field. Preferred: Master's or PhD focused on computational geometry, meshing, geometric modeling, or CAD. The posting allows 2+ years of experience or an advanced degree with relevant research/project work as an alternative.
