Job Title
Senior R&D Engineer
Role Summary
Develop and deliver simulation and modeling capabilities for thermal, structural, and reliability analysis of complex integrated circuits (including 3DIC, FinFET, and stacked-die architectures).
Work on the Research and Development team to design, optimize, validate, and maintain solvers and tools used for engineering sign-off and high-impact semiconductor decisions.
Experience Level
Senior-level. See Education Requirements for explicit experience guidance.
Responsibilities
The role focuses on developing, optimizing, debugging, and validating multiphysics simulation software:
- Design, develop, and deliver new simulation/modeling capabilities for thermal, structural, and reliability analysis.
- Refine requirements with managers and technical leads and execute delivery plans.
- Diagnose and fix software defects across the codebase to ensure numerical correctness and sign-off accuracy.
- Optimize solver performance and memory usage to support larger, faster simulations.
- Build unit, regression, and system-level tests to validate features and prevent regressions.
- Collaborate with engineers and technical leads to communicate design decisions and manage dependencies.
- Apply software engineering best practices to produce maintainable, extensible code.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- Strong knowledge of finite element method (FEM) and finite volume method (FVM) modeling.
- Deep understanding of thermodynamics and heat transfer theory.
- Knowledge of mechanics of materials, solid mechanics, stress analysis, and fatigue analysis.
- Proficient in C++; ability to work in large, complex codebases.
- Working knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and debugging techniques.
- Experience optimizing numerical solvers for performance and memory.
- Experience building and maintaining automated tests (unit, regression, system).
Nice-to-have:
- Python scripting for automation and prototyping.
- Experience with APDL, Ansys Mechanical/Fluent/Icepak, Abaqus, or COMSOL.
Education Requirements
BS in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field with 3+ years of relevant experience; or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field. PhD will be considered. Equivalent practical experience may be acceptable.
