Job Title

Senior R&D Engineer

Role Summary

Develop and deliver simulation and modeling capabilities for thermal, structural, and reliability analysis of complex integrated circuits (including 3DIC, FinFET, and stacked-die architectures).

Work on the Research and Development team to design, optimize, validate, and maintain solvers and tools used for engineering sign-off and high-impact semiconductor decisions.

Experience Level

Senior-level. See Education Requirements for explicit experience guidance.

Responsibilities

The role focuses on developing, optimizing, debugging, and validating multiphysics simulation software:

  • Design, develop, and deliver new simulation/modeling capabilities for thermal, structural, and reliability analysis.
  • Refine requirements with managers and technical leads and execute delivery plans.
  • Diagnose and fix software defects across the codebase to ensure numerical correctness and sign-off accuracy.
  • Optimize solver performance and memory usage to support larger, faster simulations.
  • Build unit, regression, and system-level tests to validate features and prevent regressions.
  • Collaborate with engineers and technical leads to communicate design decisions and manage dependencies.
  • Apply software engineering best practices to produce maintainable, extensible code.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience:

  • Strong knowledge of finite element method (FEM) and finite volume method (FVM) modeling.
  • Deep understanding of thermodynamics and heat transfer theory.
  • Knowledge of mechanics of materials, solid mechanics, stress analysis, and fatigue analysis.
  • Proficient in C++; ability to work in large, complex codebases.
  • Working knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and debugging techniques.
  • Experience optimizing numerical solvers for performance and memory.
  • Experience building and maintaining automated tests (unit, regression, system).

Nice-to-have:

  • Python scripting for automation and prototyping.
  • Experience with APDL, Ansys Mechanical/Fluent/Icepak, Abaqus, or COMSOL.

Education Requirements

BS in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field with 3+ years of relevant experience; or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field. PhD will be considered. Equivalent practical experience may be acceptable.
