Job Title
Senior Product Quality Engineer
Role Summary
The Senior Product Quality Engineer leads product quality and reliability efforts for FiberEdge optical transceivers and connectivity products. This role resolves complex customer returns and RMAs, drives corrective actions, and improves product and process quality across design, test, and manufacturing.
The position works cross-functionally with design, manufacturing, supply quality, and customers to reduce failures, implement corrective/preventive actions, and support new product introductions.
Experience Level
Senior level β requires extensive industry experience. The posting specifies 10+ years in semiconductor or optical transceiver manufacturing.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include investigation, corrective action, and continuous improvement to ensure product reliability and customer satisfaction.
- Lead resolution of customer returns and RMAs: technical communication, containment, 8D reporting, and production support (approx. 50%).
- Manage NCMR/quality excursion resolutions with supply quality and subcontractors; verify effectiveness of corrective actions (approx. 20%).
- Initiate and lead continuous improvement projects using Six Sigma, 5S, Kaizen and lean methods; align to ISO9001 (approx. 15%).
- Support new product introductions: participate in product assessments, FMEA workshops, and embed quality processes (approx. 15%).
- Collaborate with customers, foundries, and subcontractors to investigate failures and implement process or design changes.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience required for the role are listed first; preferred skills follow.
-
Must-have: 10+ years in semiconductor or optical transceiver manufacturing; direct experience with wafer manufacturing, assembly, test, and optical module processes.
-
Must-have: Deep understanding of transistor technologies used in high-speed optical circuits (SiGe HBT, BiCMOS, BCD/BCD-like technologies).
-
Must-have: Expertise in analog circuit fundamentals: high-speed amplifiers, bias circuits, current sources, and signal integrity.
-
Must-have: Strong knowledge and practical application of ISO9001 QMS, NCMR, CAPA, SPC, FMEA, control plans, 8D problem-solving, and statistical analysis.
-
Must-have: Proven experience communicating and working directly with customers and suppliers on technical escalations.
-
Must-have: Excellent written and verbal communication in English.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience with NRZ and PAM-4, SerDes architectures, and equalization techniques (FFE, DFE, CTLE).
-
Nice-to-have: Data analysis skills (JMP, Minitab, or Python) and exposure to Lean/Six Sigma (Green/Black Belt preferred).
-
Nice-to-have: Knowledge of optical transceiver reliability physics, laser degradation, optical alignment, thermal management, and semiconductor failure analysis (optical microscopy, SEM, curve tracing, thermal imaging).
-
Nice-to-have: Certified ISO9001 auditor and experience with AI/datacenter interconnect requirements.
-
Nice-to-have: Willingness to travel approximately 20β30% to customer sites, assembly subcontractors, and foundry partners.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering is required (as stated in the minimum qualifications).
