Senior Product Engineer - NAND Firmware Integration
Micron TechnologyJob Title
Senior Product Engineer - NAND Firmware Integration
Role Summary
The Senior Product Engineer (NAND firmware integration) leads debug and root cause analysis for NAND-related issues across SSDs, UFS, eMMC and other NAND-based storage products. The role partners with Product Development, System Engineering, Firmware, Quality, Failure Analysis and Manufacturing to resolve qualification and customer issues and to improve product robustness.
The engineer will analyze logs, protocol traces, electrical measurements and failure analysis data, drive corrective actions, support product qualification and sustaining activities, and develop automation and AI-assisted workflows to accelerate debug and improve engineering productivity.
Experience Level
Senior-level (E1βE5). No explicit years-of-experience guidance provided.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include technical ownership of NAND failure investigations, cross-functional collaboration, and development of methods and tools to reduce turnaround time.
- Own and drive NAND Failure Investigation (NFI) activities for qualification and sustaining support.
- Debug and perform root cause analysis of NAND-related system failures, including device, firmware interactions, controller interfaces, signal integrity, and media management.
- Analyze characterization data, system logs, protocol traces, tester data, and silicon measurements to identify failure mechanisms.
- Collaborate with PDT, System Engineering, Firmware, Quality, and Manufacturing to resolve qualification and customer issues.
- Drive containment, corrective actions, and long-term solutions for critical product issues.
- Support NAND technology qualification, new product introduction (NPI), and volume manufacturing readiness.
- Identify design marginalities, defectivity-related issues, and reliability concerns affecting performance and yield.
- Develop debug methodologies, automation tools, and AI-assisted workflows to improve RCA efficiency and turnaround time.
- Capture learnings into knowledge bases and standardized debug procedures; present technical findings to cross-functional stakeholders.
Requirements
Core competencies and behavioral expectations required for the role, followed by preferred technical skills.
Must-have:
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills applicable to hardware/firmware/system interactions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Self-motivated with a strong learning mindset.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively across global, cross-functional teams.
Nice-to-have:
- Knowledge of NAND Flash memory operation and architecture.
- Familiarity with SSD, UFS, eMMC or other storage systems.
- Experience with system debug, root cause analysis, validation, or product qualification in semiconductor or storage products.
- Programming or scripting experience (Python, SQL, data analytics tools) and experience developing automation or AI-assisted engineering workflows.
- Experience with semiconductor product development, tester data analysis, or failure analysis techniques.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Semiconductor Engineering, or a related discipline (as listed in the posting).
