Senior Product Engineer, Modem SOC - TeraWave
Blue OriginJob Title
Senior Product Engineer, Modem SOC - TeraWave
Role Summary
Lead product engineering for the TeraWave Modem SoC through tape-out, characterization, qualification, and production release. Work at the intersection of product, validation, and test engineering to ensure schedule, yield, and cost targets for an advanced 5G NR NTN modem SoC used in satellite communications.
Experience Level
Senior - requires 7+ years of IC product engineering or product development experience, including bringing complex digital or mixed-signal SoCs from definition to production.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include ownership of SoC production release, characterization and test strategy, and cross-functional coordination with NPI and backend partners.
- Own the Modem SoC release from tape-out through qualification, reliability testing, and production handoff.
- Develop and execute characterization and qualification plans across subsystems (PHY, compute, memory, power, security).
- Define and own statistical analysis, ATE correlation, test-limit setting, and datasheet validation.
- Lead boot, storage, and secure-boot subsystem bring-up and validation (QSPI, eMMC, root-of-trust, OTA flows).
- Characterize power domains and DVFS behavior, validate wake/sleep latency and power gating for mission budgets.
- Validate crypto/DMA and security subsystems: throughput, key management, interrupt and integrity responses.
- Develop ATE test plans with DFT and functional coverage; partner with test engineering for coverage and optimization.
- Manage failure analysis, yield excursions, RMAs, and coordinate corrective actions with design and OSATs.
- Review NPI hardware (load boards, characterization boards, probe cards) and interface with backend operations.
- Define production KPIs, monitor production health, and report to program and operations leadership.
- Mentor junior engineers and drive process improvements for NPI and production flows.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, constraints, and compliance requirements.
- Proven experience owning product releases through characterization, qualification, and reliability testing on advanced-node ASICs.
- Hands-on expertise with high-speed SoC testing: SerDes interface characterization, DDR memory validation, compute subsystem bring-up, and ATE test development.
- Advanced knowledge of IC manufacturing processes, DFT methodologies (scan, BIST, JTAG), and failure analysis techniques.
- Strong statistical analysis skills and familiarity with DOE, Gauge R&R, JMP, and production limit setting.
- Proficiency in Python or similar scripting for test automation, data collection, and analysis.
- Experience developing and validating ATE test plans and correlating lab/ATE/field data.
- Experience interfacing with OSATs/backend operations through NPI and production ramp.
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage schedule, yield, and cost tradeoffs.
- Willingness to travel up to ~10% and relocate if required (relocation provided).
- Export control eligibility: applicants must be U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, U.S. permanent residents (Green Card holders), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as refugees or asylees.
- Background checks required as part of onboarding.
Preferred:
- Experience owning compute SoC or modem ASIC NPI, including schedule and budget ownership.
- Expertise in 5G NR modem PHY testing, NTN/satellite modem validation, and beam-slice datapaths.
- Hands-on experience with high-speed SerDes (e.g., 112G PAM4), LPDDR5x/6 bring-up, and Arm compute subsystem validation.
- Secure-boot/root-of-trust validation, timing/synchronization interface validation (PPS, PTP/IEEE1588, SyncE, GNSS), DVFS/multi-domain power testing, and radiation-tolerant product experience.
- Demonstrated mentoring of early-career engineers.
Education Requirements
Required: BSEE (Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering) or equivalent. Preferred: MSEE or other advanced degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field. The posting allows equivalent practical experience in lieu of formal degree credentials.
