Job Title

Senior Product Engineer

Role Summary

Senior Product Engineer on the Silicon and Manufacturing Packaging Engineering (SMPE) team within Microsoft Silicon, Cloud Hardware, and Infrastructure Engineering. The role focuses on manufacturing readiness, test program execution, yield ramping, and cross-functional coordination to enable high-volume, high-quality cloud silicon production.

The position works across design, test, packaging, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to drive capacity scaling, reduce risk, and improve manufacturability for datacenter-class silicon.

Experience Level

Senior — typically requires 10+ years in product, test, or manufacturing engineering for advanced silicon.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include leading technical program activities across supply chain, test, and manufacturing to enable NPI → HVM scale.

  • Coordinate with foundries, OSATs, and system integrators to drive execution readiness and capacity scaling.
  • Align build plans, material readiness, and recovery strategies across stakeholders.
  • Lead cross-functional resolution of execution risks spanning design, test, packaging, manufacturing, and supply chain.
  • Drive program decisions using data-driven insights and clear trade-offs under ramp pressure.
  • Execute and debug ATE test programs at wafer and package level; implement necessary test program changes.
  • Translate silicon specifications (timing, voltage, power, redundancy, security) into robust test coverage and guard-banding.
  • Own yield ramp from NPI to HVM: yield monitoring, DOE, excursion management, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead structured failure analysis and RMA feedback loops to improve silicon quality and manufacturability.
  • Optimize test time and cost; establish production-system frameworks for capacity, cycle time, and recovery models.
  • Identify and eliminate scale-induced failure modes and leverage telemetry/analytics for real-time decision making.

Requirements

Must-have technical experience and role expectations followed by preferred qualifications.

  • Must-have: 10+ years in product, test, or manufacturing engineering for advanced silicon (CPU, GPU, AI SoC).
  • Must-have: Experience with ATE test program development, characterization, and debug.
  • Must-have: Experience with yield analysis, DOE, and failure analysis.
  • Must-have: Experience with high-volume manufacturing and OSAT operations and proven NPI → HVM ramp delivery.
  • Must-have: Experience in or strong interest in Technical Program Management.
  • Must-have: Ability to meet Microsoft Cloud Background Check and export-control screening and to provide citizenship or residency documentation as required.
  • Preferred: Experience scaling hyperscale/datacenter silicon programs.
  • Preferred: Deep understanding of advanced packaging (2.5D/3D, chiplets) and system-level interactions.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with data/AI-driven manufacturing systems (predictive yield, telemetry analytics) and strong cross-functional leadership.

Education Requirements

Not specified.
