Senior Product Development Engineer
Role Summary
Member of the Operations NPI Product Development Engineering team responsible for taking datacenter server and assembly designs from engineering concepts through NPI to high-volume production. The role focuses on manufacturing, test, failure analysis/recovery, and handoff to contract manufacturers and internal production teams.
Experience Level
Senior-level β requires significant experience; the posting requests 12+ years of relevant work experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities during NPI and production enablement include technical ownership, cross-functional coordination, and continuous process improvement.
- Own and deliver manufacturing, test, and failure analysis/recovery processes for datacenter servers and assemblies during NPI and handoff to production.
- Collaborate with hardware, firmware, software teams, manufacturing partners, program management, and product quality engineering.
- Develop and implement product development plans; participate in Design for Manufacturing/Test (DFX) reviews and provide actionable feedback.
- Support prototype and validation builds, troubleshoot issues, collect metrics, and report status.
- Define and implement process improvements based on data analysis.
- Monitor build dashboards to analyze throughput, yields, and failures.
- Debug server platforms, perform minor rework, retesting, and recover units per guidelines.
- Publish daily status and build reports; create documentation and SOPs for assembly, test, debug, and failure analysis.
- Coordinate with contract manufacturers' failure analysis, test engineers, and operators to ensure smooth factory operations.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, work habits, and logistical capabilities required to perform the role.
- 12+ years of experience in design and manufacture of complex compute or networking hardware platforms.
- Proven practical knowledge of major components and interfaces (CPUs, GPUs, HBM, Ethernet, PCIe, I2C, SPI).
- Strong hardware debugging and systematic problem-solving skills for complex platforms.
- Experience with diagnostics and test software used in factory settings.
- Familiarity with Linux command line and ability to review log files and make initial triage decisions.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to produce clear technical documentation and reports.
- Self-starter with ownership mentality and ability to drive tasks to completion.
- Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally, typically 2β3 times per quarter.
Nice-to-have:
- High-speed digital design, signal integrity, timing analysis, statistics, and fault analysis experience.
- Prior board- or system-level electrical design experience.
- Familiarity with AI-based tools for automating routine tasks.
Education Requirements
BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience (the posting states "BS/MS or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering").
