Senior Process Development Engineer - CVD (Advanced NAND)
Micron TechnologyJob Title
Senior Process Development Engineer - CVD (Advanced NAND)
Role Summary
Senior engineer responsible for thin film (CVD/Diffusion) process development for advanced NAND technology. The role executes experiments, characterizes films, troubleshoots process and tool issues, and supports process transfer into manufacturing while collaborating with integration, metrology, failure analysis, yield, and equipment partners.
Experience Level
Senior level. Typical background per posting: PhD, or Master’s with ≥3 years relevant experience, or Bachelor’s with ≥5 years relevant experience.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include development, characterization, and transfer of thin film processes and disciplined experimental execution.
- Develop, optimize, and characterize thin film processes (CVD/Diffusion) to meet performance, reliability, and manufacturability targets.
- Design and execute experiments (DOE/SPC), analyze data, and present results in technical forums.
- Perform film characterization (examples: SEM, TEM, XPS, SIMS, AFM) and correlate results to process outcomes.
- Troubleshoot process and tool issues; support process transfer and pilot line execution; sustain process maturity and capability.
- Collaborate with Process Integration, Metrology, Surface/Characterization labs, Electrical Failure Analysis, Yield, Manufacturing, and equipment vendors.
- Maintain accurate documentation of experiments, process settings, and technical reports.
- Integrate AI-assisted tools and insights responsibly to improve efficiency and contribute to continuous improvement.
Requirements
Must-have technical and professional skills for success in this senior process development role.
- Must-have technical: Fundamentals of thin film deposition (CVD/Diffusion) and film characterization; DOE/SPC basics; understanding of plasma/vacuum systems and process chemistry.
- Must-have soft skills: Structured problem-solving, learning agility in R&D, clear communication, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Preferred: Experience with dielectric or carbon-based films, NAND structural/electrical requirements, and working with equipment suppliers or tool qualification/transfer activities.
- Digital/AI: Baseline digital fluency and role-appropriate AI literacy to use AI-enabled tools responsibly for research, analysis, and process improvements.
Education Requirements
PhD, or Master’s with ≥3 years relevant experience, or Bachelor’s with ≥5 years relevant experience in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field; equivalent practical experience is accepted where noted.
