Senior Principal Software/Firmware Engineer - Optical PHY
Role Summary
Join the Optics & Connectivity Product Architecture team to develop architectural solutions for Optical PHY products and translate those architectures into product implementations. This role alternates between high-level architecture work and hands-on engagement with product design teams to deliver features and propagate best practices.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Requires 10+ years of experience in embedded design within the wired/optical communications industry.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include bridging architecture and product implementation, prototyping, and knowledge transfer.
- Embed with product design teams to turn architectural specifications into product features.
- Develop functional software/firmware prototypes from high-level designs.
- Integrate designs into product codebases and support hand-off to implementation teams.
- Document designs and lead knowledge transfer and training for implementation teams.
- Provide technical leadership and propagate best practices across multiple design teams.
- Collaborate with customer support and product teams to address customer requirements and issues.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience.
- 10+ years in embedded design in the wired or optical communications industry.
- Technical leadership experience on Optical PHY products with exposure to customer support.
- Strong firmware engineering background with working knowledge of digital design, or equivalent strong digital design background with firmware experience.
- Insight into protocol, software, hardware, and human interactions.
- Excellent communication skills with emphasis on listening and teaching.
- Eligibility to access export-controlled technology may be required.
Education Requirements
Postgraduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field(s) (postgraduate degree explicitly requested).
