Job Title

Senior Principal Software Architect, Embedded Software

Role Summary

Architect and deliver high-performance, real-time embedded software for datacenter power management within the Software and Digital Platforms Group. Lead architecture definition, platform and tool selection, and cross-functional collaboration to produce secure, reliable, and efficient embedded systems.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role that mentors engineers, drives architectural decisions, and balances long-term viability with practical constraints.

Experience Level

Senior β€” requires extensive industry experience (guidance from job: 15+ years software lifecycle experience; 10+ years architecting complex embedded software systems).

Responsibilities

Lead architecture, design, and delivery of embedded software for power-management systems in datacenters; communicate and document architecture and trade-offs; mentor engineering teams.

  • Engage with customers and stakeholders to gather and refine requirements for complex power-management systems.
  • Define robust, extensible, scalable architectures and make platform/framework/tool selections.
  • Architect high-performance real-time embedded software balancing performance, latency, and resource constraints.
  • Perform trade-off analyses (simplicity vs scalability, cost vs speed, monolith vs microservices).
  • Create architecture documentation: block diagrams, data flow, logic diagrams, and rationale.
  • Communicate architecture decisions clearly to engineering teams and stakeholders.
  • Drive process and tooling improvements, including adoption of modern methods and AI-assisted development.
  • Mentor and develop engineers from junior to senior levels.

Requirements

Key must-have technical skills and experience for the role; desirable skills listed separately.

  • Must-have: 15+ years in full software development lifecycle from requirements through product release.
  • Must-have: 10+ years designing and architecting complex embedded software systems.
  • Must-have: Proven ability to read and understand hardware schematics.
  • Must-have: Experience working in multi-developer Agile teams using Git branching and merging.
  • Must-have: Experience designing signal-processing chains in software and understanding trade-offs between performance and latency.
  • Must-have: Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to explain complex concepts to engineers, customers, and stakeholders.
  • Other: Required travel up to ~10% of the time.
  • Note: Positions requiring access to technical data may require export licensing review for certain non-U.S. applicants.

Desirable (nice-to-have): familiarity with electrical power control systems; embedded RTOS experience (e.g., Zephyr); embedded security (secure boot, secure communications); familiarity with machine learning concepts.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field (as stated). The posting specifies degree requirement rather than an explicit equivalent-experience clause.
