Job Title

Senior Principal SoC Architect – Robotics & Industrial Automation

Role Summary

Lead definition and development of next-generation mixed-signal System-on-Chip (SoC) platforms for robotics, industrial automation, motion control, and functional safety applications. Work across digital, analog, firmware, software, and systems teams to deliver industrial-grade SoC architectures for intelligent edge devices.

Experience Level

Senior — 10+ years of experience in digital IC design and SoC architecture, with proven delivery of complex SoC products.

Responsibilities

Define and drive system-level SoC architecture and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure integration, safety, and security for industrial applications.

  • Define SoC architecture integrating digital accelerators, real-time control, safety islands, and mixed-signal components.
  • Specify digital subsystems: processor cores, memory hierarchies, interconnects, and signal-processing blocks.
  • Embed hardware and firmware security (secure boot, TEE, cryptographic accelerators) aligned to IEC 62443 and EU CRA.
  • Architect real-time control loops and motor-control interfaces compliant with IEC 61508 and SIL2/3 requirements.
  • Incorporate support for industrial Ethernet protocols (EtherCAT, EtherNet/IP, PROFINET) and TSN/OPC UA FX where appropriate.
  • Enable edge compute capabilities for federated learning and distributed sensing workloads.
  • Collaborate with customers and ecosystem partners to capture requirements and validate architecture decisions.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience for immediate contribution; preferred items listed separately.

  • Proven track record delivering complex mixed-signal SoCs in industrial or robotics products.
  • Deep expertise in digital signal processing, control systems, and analog-digital partitioning.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial networking stacks and Ethernet-based field protocols.
  • Experience with functional safety architectures, safety analysis, and safety-driven design.
  • Expertise in embedded security, secure firmware, and hardware/software co-design.
  • Proficiency in RTL design (Verilog/SystemVerilog), system modeling (MATLAB, SystemC), and simulation/verification flows.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to produce architecture documentation and present to customers.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with tactile sensing, haptics, vision-processing units, or robotic feedback loops.
  • Familiarity with federated learning platforms and system-level modeling/verification methodologies.
  • Exposure to high-volume IC productization, manufacturing, and safety/cybersecurity certification processes.

Education Requirements

Required: MSEE or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
