Job Title
Senior Principal Power Architect - MCU
Role Summary
Design and architect DC-DC power systems and power-management solutions for microcontroller (MCU) products and MCU-based systems. Work within a cross-disciplinary product team (analog, digital, architecture, verification, DfT, physical design) to translate system requirements into robust power architectures and implementations.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Role expects 10+ years of product development experience in power electronics and power architecture, with leadership and mentorship responsibilities.
Responsibilities
Provide system-level and block-level power architecture and lead implementation through pre- and post-silicon phases.
- Define and architect DC-DC and switcher systems (buck, buck-boost, boost, and capacitive converters) for MCU products.
- Perform system simulations of DC-DC and switcher architectures, including digital control and analog impairment modeling.
- Quantify block-level specifications for implementations and assess how implementation impairments affect system performance.
- Ensure architecture and implementation meet system requirements pre- and post-silicon.
- Perform block-level analog design when required and provide layout oversight, review, and signoff.
- Collaborate with system architects, marketing, analog and digital designers to deliver product-ready power solutions.
- Mentor and develop junior engineers on the team.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, experience, and behaviors for successful performance in this role.
- 10+ years of product development experience, including design and architecture of switch-mode power supplies.
- Experience simulating DC-DC and switcher architectures; proficiency with tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, Simplis, or equivalent.
- Practical experience with digital control of power converters and modeling analog impairments.
- Block-level analog design experience and ability to drive layout reviews and signoff.
- Proven ability to work across analog and digital teams to implement architectures and resolve issues through tape-out and post-silicon validation.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and mentorship skills.
- Nice-to-have: prior experience with MCU platforms, capacitive converter topologies, and system-level power optimization for low-power embedded processors.
Education Requirements
Master's degree in electronic engineering is required.
