Job Title
Senior Principal Power Architect - MCU
Role Summary
Define and architect DC-DC power systems for integration into microcontroller (MCU) products and MCU-based systems. Deliver system-level simulation and block-level specifications, validate architecture pre- and post-silicon, and collaborate across analog, digital, verification, DfT and physical-design teams.
Position supports multiple engineering sites (Sophia-Antipolis, Caen, Toulouse, Catania) and contributes to product development of high-performance MCUs.
Experience Level
Senior β requires 10+ years of product development experience in power supply design and architecture.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include architecture, simulation, implementation oversight, and mentoring.
- Define power solutions and DC-DC system architectures (buck, buck-boost, boost, and capacitive converters) for MCU products.
- Perform system simulation of DC-DC/switcher architectures, including digital control and analog impairments, using tools such as MATLAB, SIMPLIS or equivalents.
- Quantify block-level specifications and assess implementation impairments on overall system performance.
- Provide block-level analog design input when required and oversee layout reviews and sign-off.
- Collaborate with analog and digital designers to ensure architecture meets requirements before and after tape-out.
- Mentor and develop junior engineers.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience to perform the role.
- 10+ years of product development experience, including switch-mode power supply design and architecture.
- Proven experience with DC-DC converter topologies (buck, buck-boost, boost) and system-level power architectures.
- Hands-on experience with system-level simulation tools and modeling of digital control and analog impairments (e.g., MATLAB, SIMPLIS, or equivalent).
- Ability to specify block-level requirements and translate system specs into implementable designs.
- Experience coordinating implementation, layout oversight, and design sign-off with analog teams.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills; ability to work across disciplines (analog, digital, verification, physical design).
- Experience mentoring and developing junior engineers.
- Nice-to-have: prior experience in MCU product development and working in cross-functional SoC teams.
Education Requirements
Master's degree in electronic engineering required.
