Senior Principal FPGA Design Engineer

Role Summary

Senior Principal FPGA Design Engineer on the Electronic Combat Solutions Hardware Engineering team, responsible for driving FPGA designs through requirements, architecture, RTL implementation, timing closure, verification support, and lab debug. This role is full-time onsite in Manchester, NH and requires collaboration with hardware, verification, and system teams; limited travel (<10%) is expected.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include hands-on FPGA design, verification support, and mentoring within a hardware engineering team.

  • Translate requirements into FPGA micro-architecture and implement RTL (VHDL preferred or Verilog).
  • Perform synthesis, place-and-route, static timing analysis, and timing closure.
  • Design and verify clock domain crossing and high-speed interfaces (SERDES, PCIe, DDR2/3/4, LVDS).
  • Develop basic testbenches and support simulation (Modelsim/Questa).
  • Lead lab bring-up, hands-on hardware debug, and product support.
  • Use revision control and scripting (GIT/CVS/Clearcase/Subversion; Perl/Tcl/Python/shell).
  • Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, security, and work-authorization requirements.

  • Current Secret clearance or ability to obtain one; U.S. Person / U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Significant FPGA or ASIC design experience, including RTL ownership and timing closure.
  • Experience with Xilinx Vivado or Intel/Altera Quartus toolflows.
  • Digital simulation experience using Modelsim or Questa.
  • Proven work with static timing analysis and clock domain crossing techniques.
  • Experience with high-speed interfaces: SERDES, PCIe, DDR2/3/4, LVDS.
  • Familiarity with revision control systems and scripting for automation/debug.
  • Strong debug, problem-solving, and communication skills; ability to work onsite in Manchester, NH.
