Senior Principal Engineer - Tech Lead

Role Summary

Technical lead across multiple software teams delivering the full embedded Linux stack (firmware, kernel, drivers, applications) for new Arm hardware targeting AI use cases. Based in the Cambridge office, the role works with architects and technical leaders to define, prioritise and decompose work into team backlogs.

The role influences cross-team technical direction and delivery across hardware and software layers.

Responsibilities

The principal responsibilities include technical leadership, backlog and work-package definition, and delivering robust embedded Linux solutions across multiple teams.

  • Define and decompose engineering work packages and capture prioritized backlogs.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance across multiple teams and coordinate with architects and technical leaders.
  • Design and validate technical foundations for firmware, kernel, drivers and applications.
  • Balance schedule, functionality, performance, quality and security trade-offs.
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers and improve team performance.
  • Communicate and align technical plans with stakeholders and engineering teams.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience.

  • Strong C/C++ development experience; familiarity with Python.
  • Proven technical leadership across multi-team projects.
  • Deep knowledge of Linux system fundamentals (networking, storage, operating system concepts).
  • Experience with embedded Linux stacks including firmware and kernel drivers.
  • Experience defining work scope, prioritising backlogs and driving delivery.
  • Effective verbal and written communication; ability to collaborate across teams.

Nice-to-have: prior experience on AI-targeted hardware/software stacks or cross-layer hardware/software integration.
