Job Title

Senior Principal Engineer, Systems Design/Architecture Engineering

Role Summary

Senior engineering role on the ADI Industrial Architecture Team to define and drive system-level architectures for high-performance mixed-signal and RF CMOS IC products targeted at industrial and instrumentation markets. The role leads cross-functional technical direction, system modeling, and customer engagements to deliver differentiated multi-GHz communication and data-conversion solutions.

Experience Level

Senior-level position. The posting specifies 20+ years of relevant experience in system applications, system design/architecture, and design engineering of high-performance RF and mixed-signal IC products and systems.

Responsibilities

Lead system-architecture activities from requirements through specification, modeling, and customer alignment. Key responsibilities include:

  • Define architecture and system partitioning for multi-GHz digital communication products and test/instrumentation systems.
  • Establish signal chain requirements, subsystem interfaces, performance/power targets, and process-node tradeoffs.
  • Perform detailed analysis of RF, data converter, clocking/synchronization, PLL, SERDES, digital features, and calibration algorithms.
  • Develop behavioral system modeling infrastructure for mixed-mode simulation and quantitative architecture analysis.
  • Lead architecture reviews and present trade-offs, risks, and recommendations to engineering teams and senior leadership.
  • Engage customers, partners, and standards groups to translate market and customer needs into product requirements and roadmaps.
  • Partner with marketing, applications, and FAE teams to convert customer pain points into actionable HW/SW requirements.
  • Identify greenfield opportunities and cross-business-unit solutions that leverage heterogeneous integration and advanced packaging.
  • Coach and manage system architects to grow the system engineering capability across geographies.
  • Travel as required (approximately 10%).

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience to perform the role:

  • Expertise in SERDES, RF CMOS, PLLs, and data converter design.
  • Experience with FinFET or fine-line planar analog CMOS process technologies and associated trade-offs.
  • Proficiency in software-defined CMOS communications or radar system design.
  • Knowledge of digitally-assisted high-speed analog design and multi-channel synchronization techniques.
  • Strong technical leadership, analytical skills, and excellent written and verbal communication.

Nice-to-have:

  • Leadership experience in broadband communications subsystem projects and multi-GHz digital communications.
  • Proven track record defining high-performance products combining RF ADCs/DACs, PLLs, and SERDES.
  • Experience specifying data converters for wideband digital communication systems and managing crosstalk.

Education Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) required; Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) preferred.
