Job Title
Senior Principal Engineer, Systems Design/Architecture Engineering
Role Summary
Lead system-level architecture and design for high-performance mixed-signal and RF CMOS ICs and platforms within the Industrial Architecture team. Drive definition of multi-GHz communication products, system specifications, behavioral modeling, and clocking/synchronization architectures while collaborating with customers, partners, and cross-functional engineering teams.
Experience Level
Senior β 20+ years of experience in system applications, system design/architecture engineering, and high-performance RF and mixed-signal IC product development.
Responsibilities
Own system architecture, analysis, customer engagement, and team coaching across product definition and development.
- Define architecture and system requirements for multi-GHz digital communication products; set subsystem partitioning, interfaces, performance and power targets.
- Perform detailed analysis of RF, data converters, PLLs, clocking and synchronization, digital features, and calibration algorithms.
- Develop behavioral system models for mixed-mode simulation and quantitative architecture analysis.
- Architect clock synthesis and distribution for high-performance devices.
- Lead architecture reviews; communicate trade-offs, recommendations, and risks to engineering teams and senior leadership.
- Engage customers, ecosystem partners, and standards groups to translate market and customer requirements into system architectures and technology-roadmap recommendations.
- Partner with marketing, applications, and field teams to convert customer pain points into hardware/software requirements.
- Identify and lead greenfield market opportunities and cross-business-unit solutions requiring heterogeneous integration and advanced packaging.
- Coach and manage system architects to grow team capabilities across geographies.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, domain expertise, and other role requirements. Preferred items are listed separately.
- 20+ years of experience in system applications, system design/architecture, and high-performance RF and mixed-signal IC product development.
- Expertise in SERDES, RF CMOS, PLL, or data converter design.
- Experience with FinFET or fine-line planar analog CMOS process technologies and tradeoffs.
- Proficiency in software-defined CMOS communications or radar system design.
- Knowledge of digitally-assisted high-speed analog design.
- Proven record of technical leadership and innovation (patents, publications, or product leadership).
- Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills.
- Willingness to travel approximately 10% of the time.
- May require export licensing review; applicants who are not U.S. citizens, U.S. permanent residents, or protected individuals may undergo export license approval processes.
Nice to have:
- Leadership experience in broadband communications subsystem projects.
- Strong understanding of multi-GHz digital communications and wideband digital communication systems.
- Experience specifying data converters for wideband systems and managing multi-channel synchronization and crosstalk.
Education Requirements
BSEE required; MSEE preferred. Fields: Electrical Engineering or closely related engineering disciplines. (Degree requirements are stated explicitly in the source posting.)
