Job Title
Senior Applications Engineer – FPGA Tools
Role Summary
Lead customer and internal enablement for FPGA development tool flows, from design entry through place-and-route and timing closure. Provide training, documentation, troubleshooting, and workflow improvements to promote adoption of FPGA software tools.
Experience Level
Senior — typically 5+ years of FPGA design-tool experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities focus on tool adoption, user enablement, and technical support for FPGA toolchains.
- Analyze tool capabilities against user requirements and recommend optimizations.
- Create and maintain documentation, best practices, and training materials for FPGA tools.
- Deliver training sessions and user enablement programs to customers and internal teams.
- Provide ITAR-compliant support and follow export-control processes for regulated markets.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate tools and improve design workflows.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues in FPGA development tools and operating environments (including OS-level issues).
- Develop automation and scripts; leverage AI tools and frameworks for workflow automation.
- Serve as a subject-matter expert for FPGA design flows to assist customers and internal stakeholders.
Requirements
Key technical and professional requirements. Items separated into must-have and nice-to-have where possible.
-
Must-have: U.S. person requirement for Aerospace & Defense market-segment support.
-
Must-have: 5+ years of FPGA design tool experience (examples: Radiant, Diamond, Quartus, Vivado).
-
Must-have: Strong experience with Verilog, VHDL, and/or SystemVerilog.
-
Must-have: Experience with logic synthesis tools (e.g., Synplify Pro).
-
Must-have: Deep knowledge of FPGA implementation flow: place-and-route, static timing analysis, and timing closure.
-
Must-have: Proficiency with Linux and ability to manage/troubleshoot OS-level issues.
-
Must-have: Excellent written and verbal English communication; ability to work independently and in teams.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience with EDA simulation tools (ModelSim/QuestaSim, VCS, Xcelium).
-
Nice-to-have: Hands-on FPGA development and verification experience; familiarity with FPGA architectures and applications.
-
Nice-to-have: Scripting experience (TCL, Perl, Python) and familiarity with Lattice FPGA design software.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or a similar technical degree is stated as the expected qualification. The posting also requires U.S. person status for Aerospace & Defense market-segment support and proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
