Senior Principal Engineer, Semiconductor Process and Device Simulation
SiemensJob Title
Senior Principal Engineer, Semiconductor Process and Device Simulation
Role Summary
Senior researcher and software developer on the Calibre R&D team focused on process and device simulation for advanced semiconductor nodes. Deliver high‑performance numerical simulation components and tools used across design and manufacturing workflows.
Work involves algorithm development, high‑performance implementation (multi‑threading, distributed, GPU), and collaboration with product and domain experts to meet throughput and accuracy targets for advanced logic, memory and packaging technologies.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Candidates typically have a PhD or an MS plus 5+ years of relevant research or industry experience; equivalent senior engineering experience will be considered.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities for this role include:
- Design and implement numerical algorithms and PDE/linear solvers for process and device simulation.
- Optimize code for high performance: multi‑threading, distributed processing (MPI), and GPU/CUDA acceleration.
- Develop and maintain production-quality C/C++ and Python code within the Calibre simulation stack.
- Collaborate with product, verification and application teams to integrate components and meet throughput/accuracy requirements.
- Estimate development tasks, plan deliverables, and drive features to completion on schedule.
- Investigate and prototype AI/ML approaches to accelerate simulation where appropriate.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and attributes:
- Strong track record in scientific computing: numerical methods (FEM/FD/FVM/BEM), eigen/linear/PDE solvers, optimization, or computational geometry.
- Experience with high-performance computing: distributed processing and GPU development (MPI, CUDA).
- Proficiency in C/C++ and Python; experience integrating performance code into production systems.
- Demonstrated problem-solving ability and experience estimating and delivering software projects on schedule.
- Effective communicator and collaborative team player.
Nice-to-have:
- AI/ML application experience for scientific computing.
- Domain knowledge of semiconductor process and device physics (photolithography, etch, deposition, CMP, device physics).
- Experience with CUDA ecosystems and GPU profiling/optimization tools.
Education Requirements
PhD in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or Engineering is preferred; alternatively an MS plus 5+ years of research/industry experience in related technical fields. Fields mentioned include Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Electrical/Mechanical/Civil Engineering. The posting explicitly allows MS+5+ years as an alternative to a PhD (equivalent practical experience considered).
