Senior Principal Engineer, Process Development Engineering
Role Summary
Senior individual contributor (P6) responsible for setting technical direction for end-to-end process integration across semiconductor manufacturing technologies at the Limerick site. The role leads integration strategy, resolves complex cross-module technical challenges, and drives sustained improvements in yield, quality, cost, reliability and ramp readiness.
Operates with broad organisational influence across process development, product engineering, manufacturing, quality and global operations to ensure stable, repeatable, scalable manufacturing capability.
Experience Level
Senior. Typically 13+ years of progressive experience in semiconductor manufacturing, process integration, process development, technology transfer, yield engineering or closely related advanced manufacturing; fewer years may be considered with a relevant master’s or doctorate.
Responsibilities
Lead technical integration and cross-functional initiatives that improve fab performance and enable technology ramps.
- Set technical direction for process flows, module interactions and integration trade-offs across multiple technologies and product platforms.
- Lead cross-module yield and device-performance improvement projects; identify systemic issues and reduce process variation.
- Own technology transfer and ramp-readiness activities to translate new technologies and process flows into scalable manufacturing.
- Lead resolution of complex excursions and root-cause investigations spanning multiple modules, tools, materials or product families.
- Use statistical methods, DOE and advanced data analytics on yield, metrology, probe, reliability and defect data to predict risk and define control strategies.
- Influence senior technical and operational stakeholders to align priorities, risks and trade-offs across the organisation.
- Establish and improve standards, control plans, documentation and lessons-learned systems for repeatable decision-making.
- Mentor senior engineers and build process integration capability across the site and global organisation.
- Provide P6-level impact by shaping technical roadmaps and delivering measurable improvements in yield, quality, cost, reliability and cycle time.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, experience and behaviours required for success in this role.
- Deep knowledge of semiconductor process flows, module interactions, device behaviour, yield mechanisms and integration trade-offs.
- Proven ability to resolve highly complex, ambiguous technical problems using structured root-cause analysis, DOE and statistical methods.
- Advanced capability in yield engineering, defect reduction, excursion management, process control, reliability analysis and predictive analytics.
- Demonstrated experience with technology transfer and ramp readiness in a high-volume semiconductor environment.
- Strong organisational influence and executive-level communication skills to align senior stakeholders and make practical business recommendations.
- Governance and risk mindset with disciplined attention to control plans, change management and specifications.
- Proven mentoring and capability-building experience for senior engineering teams.
- Willingness to travel approximately 10% of the time.
- Nice-to-have: experience across multiple process platforms, tooling interactions and global operations; prior record of site/global impact.
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Physics, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or a related engineering/science discipline, or equivalent relevant technical experience. A relevant master’s or doctorate may substitute for some years of experience.
