Job Title
Senior Principal Engineer, Power Systems Design/Architect
Role Summary
Lead a small team of senior power system architects to define scalable power architectures, solution platforms, and product strategies across high-growth application domains such as industrial automation, robotics, and sensing. The role spans concept definition, system architecture, development support, validation, customer engagement, and post-release solution support.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Typically requires 10+ years of relevant experience in power systems, power management ICs, power modules, or system-level semiconductor solution development.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include technical leadership, system architecture, portfolio strategy, and customer engagement.
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of power system architects with clear domain ownership.
- Establish an architecture process to capture customer problems, define system requirements, and identify power-tree trade-offs.
- Define scalable power architectures covering conversion, protection, isolation, telemetry, sequencing, monitoring, safety, efficiency, and system control.
- Translate customer requirements into reference architectures, technology roadmaps, and product concepts with clear trade-offs and requirements.
- Lead architecture reviews to ensure solutions are technically credible, manufacturable, supportable, and aligned to portfolio strategy.
- Partner with product management, marketing, engineering, and business development to prioritize investments and convert architecture insights into product roadmaps and business cases.
- Engage with strategic customers and field teams to position ADI solutions at the architecture level and support design-in activities.
- Create reusable reference architectures, simulation models, evaluation platforms, training materials, and technical collateral.
- Track and report business impact from architecture activities, including pipeline creation and product definition outcomes.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience for immediate success in the role. Preferred items are listed separately.
- Minimum ~10+ years of experience in power systems, power management ICs, power modules, or system-level solution development.
- Deep technical knowledge of power conversion, distribution, protection, isolation, thermal trade-offs, efficiency, transient response, EMI/EMC, and reliability.
- Proven ability to lead senior technical talent and influence cross-functional teams without direct authority.
- Strong customer-facing communication skills and experience translating technical trade-offs into product and business implications.
- Experience supporting field teams, FAEs, and customers with architecture guidance and technical escalation.
- Ability to produce technical collateral: design guides, reference architectures, simulation models, and evaluation platforms.
- Required travel: approximately 10β20% for customer and internal needs.
- Shift: 1st Shift / Days.
- Nice-to-have: experience in industrial automation, robotics, instrumentation, energy or data infrastructure, automotive, or aerospace/defense.
Education Requirements
Minimum: BSEE required. MSEE or PhD preferred. Equivalent practical experience in power electronics, electrical engineering, system architecture, or related technical fields is acceptable.
