Job Title

Senior Principal Engineer, Hardware Application Engineering — Board & System Design

Role Summary

Senior individual contributor responsible for guiding customer hardware design-in for Marvell Ethernet switch and UALink platforms. Acts as the technical bridge between silicon, internal hardware engineering, and customer teams to ensure performant, manufacturable, and reliable production platforms.

Experience Level

Senior. Requires extensive industry experience: typically 15+ years in hardware design with at least 7+ years focused on board and system design for high-speed SerDes platforms.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities center on customer-facing architecture reviews, reference-design development, and hands-on support from design through production ramp.

  • Advise customer hardware teams on architecture, schematics, PCB stack-up, and system-level design for Marvell switch and UALink silicon.
  • Lead design-in reviews to identify risks and recommend best-practice implementations.
  • Define and support reference and evaluation platform designs from product definition through customer release.
  • Drive PCB stack-up strategy and material selection to meet high-speed and cost targets.
  • Provide PDN and power-architecture guidance for high-current ASICs, including sequencing and decoupling.
  • Advise on thermal, mechanical integration, and cooling strategies (air, liquid, immersion) for high-power systems.
  • Review and contribute to SI/PI simulations and perform targeted simulations when required.
  • Lead hardware bring-up, lab debug, root-cause analysis, and resolution during customer lab phases and early production.
  • Develop and deliver technical training for customers and internal teams on reference designs and high-speed design best practices.
  • Collaborate with silicon design, packaging, SI/PI, software, and operations teams to deliver integrated solutions and influence product roadmaps.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, domain experience, and customer engagement capabilities.

  • 15+ years of hardware design, development, and validation experience in high-speed networking or compute systems.
  • 7+ years of board and system design experience with modern SerDes technologies (25G NRZ through 112G/224G PAM4).
  • Proven full-lifecycle ownership of complex high-speed boards: architecture, schematic, layout guidance, and bring-up.
  • Experience defining and delivering reference designs that enable platform adoption.
  • Expertise in PCB stack-up design and material selection for high-layer-count, high-speed boards.
  • Deep experience in power architecture and PDN design for high-current ASICs, including sequencing and decoupling strategies.
  • Strong background in thermal design and mechanical integration for high-power networking and AI systems.
  • Working knowledge of SI/PI principles and ability to review or perform SI/PI simulations.
  • Hands-on lab bring-up and debug experience using industry-standard lab equipment.
  • Customer-facing experience and strong communication skills to influence senior engineering teams and collaborate across disciplines and geographies.

Preferred / Nice-to-have:

  • Direct experience with Ethernet switch platforms or emerging open AI fabric standards and architectures.
  • Experience targeting megascale data center deployments and working with ODM/CM manufacturing flows (DFM/DFT, qualification, reliability testing).
  • Familiarity with advanced cooling (liquid, immersion) for high-power platforms.
  • Fluency in EDA tools (Cadence Allegro/Sigrity or Mentor/Siemens Xpedition/HyperLynx) or equivalent tool experience.
  • Track record of influencing silicon and platform roadmaps from customer and field insights.

Education Requirements

PhD, Master’s, or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
