Senior Principal Embedded Firmware Software Engineer - Networking (PAM4/DSP/Data Center/ODSP/AEC/MicroLED/AI Connectivity)

Role Summary

Design and lead development of simulators and functional models for SSD controller SoCs. Work with hardware and firmware teams to create register-level IP models, NAND flash memory models, and simulation infrastructure used across product development.

Experience Level

Senior level. Hiring targets experienced engineers: typical minimums shown in Qualifications range from about 8 to 15+ years depending on academic degree; expects significant hands-on industry experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include architecting simulator frameworks, creating SoC and memory models, and supporting engineering teams.

• Architect and design simulators for SSD controller SoCs.
• Identify and document requirements for functional simulation models.
• Design and implement SoC IP functional models at the register level.
• Design and develop models of various NAND flash memories.
• Mentor simulator developers and provide technical guidance.
• Participate in design and code reviews and improve modeling practices.
• Promote and support simulator usage across engineering teams; conduct user training.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items are indicated.

• Must: 10+ years programming in C/C++.
• Must: 5+ years of Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) or similar hardware-touching feature development.
• Must: 3+ years developing and using simulators.
• Must: 5+ years hands-on debugging experience with interactive debuggers, in-circuit emulators, JTAG debuggers, ETM, or equivalent tools.
• Must: Eligibility to access export-controlled technology as required by U.S. export regulations.
• Preferred: 5+ years SSD firmware development experience.
• Preferred: Knowledge of NVMe, ONFI, and Toggle flash protocols.
• Preferred: 2+ years Python programming experience.
• Preferred: Experience developing models with Synopsys Virtualizer, QEMU, or Wind River SIMICS.
• Preferred: 2+ years modeling experience using SystemC, C++, or DML.

Education Requirements

Degrees specified in the posting: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related fields (with at least 15 years related professional experience); Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related fields (with at least 10 years experience); Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related fields (with at least 8 years experience).
