Senior Principal Design Engineer

Role Summary

Responsible for physical implementation of high-speed interface PHY IPs, developing scripts/tools to improve the PD design flow, and applying PPA optimizations across product projects. Work within product teams to deliver designs, resolve implementation issues, and define checks and flows to prevent recurrence.

You will address challenging implementation problems on advanced process nodes and improve production-quality physical design flows.

Experience Level

Senior - guidance provided in posting: MS with minimum 7+ years of relevant experience, or BS with minimum 9+ years.

Responsibilities

Deliverables and primary duties include:

• Perform physical implementation of high-speed interface PHY IPs, including floorplan, CTS, placement/timing closure.
• Develop scripts and small tools (automation) to enhance PD design flow and productivity.
• Execute project tasks and meet product delivery milestones.
• Diagnose and resolve design issues; create verification steps and flows to prevent recurrence.
• Analyze and summarize PPA (performance, power, area) optimization results and implement optimal design parameters and flows across projects.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience:

• Strong physical design experience in digital implementation: floorplanning, clock-tree synthesis (CTS), static timing analysis (STA), physical verification, and power analysis.
• Proven ability to implement and optimize PPA across projects.
• Proficient in scripting: Perl, C Shell, TCL, Makefile, Python.
• Familiarity with EDA tools such as Innovus, ICC, Calibre, Tempus, PrimeTime.
• Willingness to learn new process-node technologies and advanced design methodologies.

Education Requirements

BS with a minimum of 9+ years of relevant experience, or MS with a minimum of 7+ years. Fields explicitly mentioned: circuits, electronics, physics. No certifications or explicit equivalent-experience language specified.
