Senior Principal Application Engineer

Role Summary

Provide technical support and guidance to customers on backend digital implementation, including place-and-route, design closure, and timing/power signoff. Work with customers and internal R&D to improve tools, methodologies, and adoption of Cadence technologies.

Role includes technical presentations, running evaluations/benchmarks, and developing or amending flows using scripting to improve automation and results.

Experience Level

Senior — 10+ years of industry physical design experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include customer-facing technical support, tool adoption, and collaboration with internal teams.

• Provide technical support for backend digital implementation: place-and-route, design closure, timing and power signoff.
• Advise customers on effective use of Cadence tools to meet design goals and schedules.
• Conduct technical presentations and product demonstrations.
• Drive technical evaluations, benchmarks, and proof-of-concept engagements.
• Collaborate with R&D to enhance tools and methodologies based on customer requirements.
• Promote adoption and proliferation of Cadence tools and flows.
• Develop and modify flows using Tcl, Perl, Python or other scripting to meet objectives and improve automation.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience.

• 10+ years of industry physical design experience.
• Experience with IC physical implementation flows and backend EDA tools.
• Experience with advanced process nodes (3nm and below).
• Proficiency in scripting (Tcl, Perl, Python).
• Strong customer-facing communication, problem-solving, and written/verbal skills.
• Self-driven with a commitment to continuous learning.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree (BS) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
