Senior Principal Analog Design Engineer
Allegro MicroSystemsJob Title
Senior Principal Analog Design Engineer
Role Summary
Lead the analog IC design and development for Allegro's next-generation motor driver and power-management products. The role owns the full analog lifecycle from architectural definition through silicon validation and works closely with systems, digital, test, and manufacturing teams.
Focus areas include high-voltage gate drivers, power-regulation blocks, ADC/DAC and mixed-signal interfaces for automotive and industrial motor-drive applications.
Experience Level
Senior-level. The role expects 10+ years of experience in analog integrated circuit design with multiple product tape-outs.
Responsibilities
Deliver robust analog ICs by leading design, verification, and handoff activities; provide technical leadership and cross-functional coordination.
- Define architecture and detailed specifications for analog blocks (HS/LS gate drivers, amplifiers, charge pumps, bandgaps, regulators, ADCs/DACs, serial interfaces, diagnostics).
- Perform transistor-level design, schematic capture, and simulation using advanced EDA tools.
- Drive pre-silicon verification: corner simulations, Monte Carlo, noise and reliability analyses.
- Supervise and guide layout engineers to ensure matching, robustness, and performance.
- Lead silicon bring-up, characterization, and debugging with test and product engineering teams.
- Develop innovative circuit solutions to meet performance, power, and area targets.
- Mentor junior and staff engineers and participate in hiring technical talent.
- Contribute to IP generation via invention disclosures and patents.
- Collaborate with marketing, systems, verification, validation, and manufacturing for successful product delivery.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience, followed by preferred skills.
- Must-have: 10+ years of analog IC design with proven product tape-outs.
- Deep experience designing analog building blocks: gate drivers, amplifiers, charge pumps, bandgaps, regulators, ADCs/DACs, and serial interfaces.
- Proficiency with Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre, ADE-XL and transistor-level simulators (Spectre, HSPICE).
- Strong understanding of semiconductor device physics and process technologies (e.g., BCD, CMOS) and their impact on circuit performance.
- Experience with motor-driver ICs or power-management ICs, including silicon characterization and debugging.
- Demonstrated technical leadership, problem-solving, and mentoring ability; effective written and verbal communication.
- Nice-to-have: experience with mixed-signal verification methodologies, automotive qualification standards (AEC-Q100), functional safety (ISO 26262), scripting/automation (Python, Perl), and prior principal/lead design roles.
Education Requirements
Master's or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
