Senior Platform PnP Engineer
Role Summary
Senior individual contributor on Microsoft's Cloud Hardware Systems Engineering (CHSE) team, focused on platform power, performance, and efficiency for next-generation AI compute platforms used in Azure datacenters. The role leads technical strategy, cross-functional delivery, and performance optimization across silicon, firmware, OS, and datacenter systems.

Responsibilities
Deliver platform-level power and performance leadership for AI compute systems and drive cross-functional initiatives.
- Lead platform power and performance strategy to maximize performance-per-watt, scalability, efficiency, and TCO.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship; lead cross-functional engineering initiatives.
- Partner across architecture, silicon, firmware, hardware, validation, OS, manufacturing, and customer engineering to define and deliver platform solutions.
- Drive silicon and platform architecture for workload characterization, power management, DVFS/frequency/voltage optimization, memory subsystem efficiency, and accelerator utilization.
- Analyze system interactions (power delivery, thermal, firmware, OS, datacenter infra) to improve performance, efficiency, reliability, and scalability.
- Lead power-performance characterization, profiling, and benchmarking using customer workloads, AI training/inference, and synthetic benchmarks.
- Influence silicon and platform roadmaps through workload analysis and identification of performance and efficiency opportunities.
- Communicate technical strategies, trade-offs, and recommendations to engineering leadership and executives.
Requirements

- Demonstrated technical engineering experience in compute or AI systems/platforms (see Education Requirements for required degree/experience combinations).
- Ability to meet Microsoft Cloud background check and other security screening requirements.
- Willingness to travel up to ~25% as required.
- Nice-to-have: experience with silicon bring-up, workload profiling, benchmarking, power/performance optimization, liquid cooling, and datacenter-scale operations.
- Nice-to-have: experience working across hardware, firmware, OS, silicon architecture, and validation teams to deliver complex platform solutions.
- Nice-to-have: experience with custom silicon or AI accelerator development and hyperscale cloud infrastructure.
Education Requirements
Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field plus 3+ years technical engineering experience; OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field plus 5+ years technical engineering experience; OR equivalent practical experience.
