Senior Place-and-Route (PnR) / Physical Design Engineer
Advanced Micro DevicesJob Title
Senior Place-and-Route (PnR) / Physical Design Engineer
Role Summary
Deliver physical implementation of digital blocks and ensure timing, power, and reliability signoff for advanced ASIC/SoC designs. Work with PnR tools and signoff flows to meet PPA and EMIR targets and improve physical design methodologies.
Experience Level
Senior — typically 4–8 years of relevant experience in semi-custom or place-and-route physical design (as stated by the employer).
Responsibilities
Primary delivery and collaboration responsibilities for block-level physical design and signoff:
- Execute physical implementation of digital blocks using industry-standard place-and-route tools, meeting PPA specifications.
- Perform floorplanning and power grid design to satisfy EMIR and IR drop requirements.
- Analyze timing and complete timing signoff; implement fixes to meet timing closure.
- Generate and apply ECOs to resolve timing, noise, and EMIR violations.
- Analyze and resolve physical DRCs and LVS issues using Calibre or equivalent tools.
- Contribute to and improve physical design methodologies, flows, and automation.
- Develop and maintain scripts and automation for flows (Tcl/Perl or similar).
- Debug electrical, timing, and reliability issues and collaborate across teams to resolve them.
Requirements
Essential technical skills and experience required for the role.
- Proven experience with industry-standard place-and-route (PnR) tools and flows for digital block implementation.
- Strong floorplanning skills and experience designing power grids to meet EMIR/IR drop constraints.
- Solid understanding of timing concepts, timing analysis, and timing signoff methodologies.
- Hands-on experience creating and implementing ECOs to fix timing, noise, and EMIR violations.
- Experience with physical verification: DRC analysis and LVS debugging using Calibre or equivalent.
- Proficient scripting skills (Tcl, Perl, or similar) for automation of physical design tasks.
- Good debug skills for electrical, timing, and reliability issues; strong problem-solving ability.
- Effective team player with strong oral and written communication skills.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electronics Engineering is required (as stated). The posting specifies 4–8 years of experience in semi-custom or PnR design; no alternate "equivalent experience" clause is provided.
