Senior Physical Design Methodology Engineer, PPA Improvement Technology Scaling
NVIDIAJob Title
Senior Physical Design Methodology Engineer, PPA Improvement Technology Scaling
Role Summary
Join the Methodology team to develop and deploy physical-design methodologies for NVIDIA GPUs and SoCs focused on improving power, performance, and area (PPA) across technology nodes.
The role executes PPA experiments, develops automation for early design collateral, and creates practical solutions for floorplanning, power/clock distribution, place-and-route, timing closure, and back-end verification.
Experience Level
Senior - minimum 5 years of experience in Physical Design Engineering.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include methodology development, experimentation, automation, and cross-project verification to achieve PPA targets.
- Develop physical-design methodologies for GPUs and SoCs (floorplan, power/clock distribution, P&R flows).
- Design and run PPA experiments and evaluate new technologies across floorplan, timing, power, noise, and back-end verification.
- Create automation and scripts to generate and analyze early design collaterals (e.g., cell analysis, constraint generation).
- Support timing analysis and closure, power and noise analysis, and chip assembly activities.
- Work on hierarchical and top-down design approaches to meet budgeting and physical convergence goals.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and solve manufacturability and yield issues.
Requirements
Summary of required technical skills and practical experience.
Must-have:
- Minimum 5 years in physical design engineering focused on floorplanning, P&R, timing, and integration.
- Proven experience with industry-standard EDA tools for implementation, timing, and power analysis.
- Strong background in hierarchical/top-down design, budgeting, timing and physical convergence.
- Familiarity with DfY/manufacturability, EM/IR closure, and thermal considerations.
- Proficiency in programming/scripting such as Python, Perl, and C++ for automation.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with CPU-related physical design.
- Prior work on advanced node technology scaling and PPA trade-offs.
Education Requirements
MS in Electrical or Computer Engineering is stated; equivalent practical experience is accepted.
