Senior Physical Design Engineer
LumilensJob Title
Senior Physical Design Engineer
Role Summary
Join the silicon design team responsible for high-performance ASICs on advanced TSMC nodes (5nm and 3nm). You will own physical implementation from RTL to GDSII and drive timing, power, and area closure for ultra-high-speed designs.
This role requires close collaboration with RTL, STA, IP, and verification teams to resolve complex implementation challenges for advanced-node and high-speed transceiver architectures.
Experience Level
Senior β typically 8+ years of hands-on physical design experience, especially with advanced process nodes (5nm or below).
Responsibilities
Primary ownership of physical design and signoff activities for blocks and full-chip designs on advanced nodes.
- Lead full-chip and block-level physical implementation: floorplanning, placement, CTS, routing, and DRC/LVS/physical verification.
- Drive timing, power, and area closure; coordinate handoffs with RTL, STA, and verification teams.
- Apply advanced physical-design techniques: multi-voltage/multi-frequency domains, hierarchical implementation, congestion mitigation, skew optimization, and RC-aware placement/routing.
- Perform signoff and tapeout activities including PV, EM/IR analysis, ESD checks, and signoff debugging.
- Automate flows and develop scripts to improve design turnaround and signoff robustness.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience.
- 8+ years of hands-on physical design experience on advanced technology nodes (experience with 5nm or below preferred).
- Strong expertise in floorplanning, placement, CTS, routing, IR-drop mitigation, timing closure, and signoff debugging.
- Experience with industry tools and automation: Synopsys ICC2, Cadence Innovus, Voltus, RedHawk SC, Siemens Calibre, or equivalent.
- Proficient scripting skills (Tcl, Python, or Perl) for automation and flow integration.
- Experience supporting high-speed PHY/SerDes and high-frequency datapaths is highly desirable.
- Excellent cross-functional communication and ability to drive convergent signoff schedules.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical field.
