Senior Physical Design Engineer

Role Summary

Join Intel's Central Engineering Group (CEG) to perform physical implementation of custom IP and SoC designs from RTL to GDS. The role focuses on synthesis, place-and-route, timing closure, power and noise analysis, verification and signoff, and methodology/flow automation.

This position supports product enablement for emerging workloads including IoT, AI, Edge and Networking.

Experience Level

Senior-level. The posting specifies a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in physical design tool flows and related areas.

Responsibilities

Primary duties include executing and improving the full physical design flow and supporting signoff and verification activities.

• Implement physical design of custom IP and SoC from RTL to GDS.
• Run synthesis, place & route, clock tree synthesis, floorplanning, power/clock distribution.
• Perform static timing analysis and timing closure activities.
• Conduct reliability, power integrity, and noise analysis (static and dynamic).
• Run signoff flows: formal equivalence, layout verification, electrical rule checking, and structural reviews.
• Analyze results and recommend architecture or implementation improvements.
• Optimize designs for power, frequency, and area.
• Participate in development and automation of physical design methodologies and flows.
• Mentor and collaborate with cross-site partners on structural and physical design issues.

Requirements

Must-have skills and conditions for initial consideration; preferred items are marked.

• At least 3 years of experience running synthesis, place-and-route physical design tools, flows and sign-off.
• At least 3 years of experience with Unix/Linux and shell programming.
• Advanced English communication skills; ability to work with cross-site stakeholders.
• Costa Rican unrestricted work permit (required).
• Preferred: ~3 years writing code in PERL, TCL, and Python.
• Preferred: Proven experience applying AI tools in technical engineering contexts.

Education Requirements

Bachelor of Engineering or Master of Science in Electronic, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
