Job Title

Senior Physical Design Engineer

Role Summary

Lead the definition and execution of ASIC physical design flows, tools and methodologies for IP and SoC development at Ericsson's Austin design site. This role is hands-on and includes technical ownership of PPA, timing and power closure across advanced process nodes.

Responsibilities

You will establish and drive physical design execution and mentor others. Key responsibilities include:

  • Define physical design flow, select tools, and establish methods and processes from the ground up.
  • Execute physical implementation for IP and SoC projects, including floorplanning, placement, routing, and signoff.
  • Optimize PPA (performance, power, area) and lead timing and power closure efforts.
  • Coordinate with design, CAD, verification, and cross-disciplinary teams to resolve integration issues.
  • Drive problem resolution under program schedule pressure and own delivery for tape-outs.
  • Recruit, interview, onboard, and mentor physical design engineers to grow the team.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience:

  • 10+ years in physical design for SoC, IP, or ASIC (lead/individual contributor experience).
  • Expertise in PPA optimization, RTL checks & synthesis, floorplanning, routing, power and timing closure, or signoff.
  • Working knowledge of back-end disciplines: EMIR, DFM, DFT, and power grid analysis.
  • SystemVerilog knowledge and semi-custom design experience.
  • Strong scripting skills for automation of flows and analyses.
  • Proven track record mentoring engineers and driving technical execution to completion.

Education Requirements

Minimum: BS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering. (The posting specifies BS in EE or CE as the minimum credential.)
