Senior Physical Design Engineer
Role Summary
Work on physical design methodology for NVIDIA GPUs and SoCs, focused on top-level timing closure and implementation flows.
Member of the physical design methodology team supporting tapeouts across technology nodes; build and maintain flows, debug design/tool issues, and collaborate with chip teams and EDA vendors.
Experience Level
Senior - typically 4+ years of relevant physical design experience (methodology/flow experience preferred).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include implementation, flow development, and cross-team support for top-level physical design and timing closure.
- Floorplanning, placement, clock tree synthesis (CTS), post-route optimization, and timing closure (STA).
- EMIR drop analysis, IO timing, ECOs, and DRC closure.
- Develop and maintain RTL-to-GDSII flows using industry-standard and custom EDA tools.
- Automate flows and create scripts to improve turnaround time and PPA.
- Collaborate with RTL and design teams to diagnose and resolve design and tool issues.
- Support multiple tapeouts and process nodes; participate in pre-tapeout and post-silicon activities.
- Work with EDA vendors to debug tool issues and implement improvements.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and practical experience.
- 4+ years of experience in physical design, preferably with methodology or flow responsibilities.
- Hands-on experience with place-and-route and timing tools such as ICC2/Innovus, Aspen, PrimeClosure, Tempus, Seahawk, or equivalents.
- Strong scripting and automation skills (Python, TCL, and tool-specific scripting).
- Strong algorithmic thinking, analytical problem solving, and debugging skills.
- Ability to work across distributed/global teams and communicate effectively.
- Willingness to learn new techniques and drive process improvements.
Education Requirements
BE / BTech / MTech or equivalent practical experience; engineering or related technical degree commonly expected. Equivalent professional experience accepted.
