Job Title

Senior Physical Design Engineer

Role Summary

Senior engineer on NVIDIA's Networking Silicon physical design team responsible for leading physical implementation of SoC and chiplet-level designs for high-speed communication devices. The role focuses on floorplanning, power/clock distribution, place & route, timing closure, and physical verification to deliver production chips.

This position contributes to physical design methodology, flow automation, and cross-team chip delivery processes.

Experience Level

Senior β€” typically 5+ years of relevant VLSI physical design experience; this posting specifies experience on advanced process nodes (5nm, 4nm, 3nm).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include leading and executing physical design tasks across partition and chiplet levels and contributing to design flow and methodology.

  • Lead physical design and implementation (RTL-to-GDS) for SoC/chiplet devices targeted at networking products.
  • Define and execute floorplan, power and clock distribution, place & route, and timing closure strategies.
  • Perform power, noise, IR drop, extraction, and physical verification analyses and correlation.
  • Drive automation and methodology improvements for physical design flows; participate in CAD/flow debugging.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve tapeout and production delivery.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience to perform the role.

  • 5+ years experience in VLSI physical design implementation on advanced nodes (5nm, 4nm, 3nm).
  • Proven track record of delivering designs to production (tapeout experience required).
  • Experienced power user of P&R, timing analysis, physical verification, and IR drop tools from Synopsys, Cadence, and other major EDA vendors (examples: ICC2, DC, PT, STAR, ICV, Genus, Innovus, Tempus).
  • Hands-on experience in timing closure, clock and power distribution design and analysis, RC extraction and correlation, and place/route strategies.
  • Strong analytical and hardware debugging skills.
  • Familiarity with scripting for automation (Python, Perl, Tcl, Make) is helpful.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and contribute to process improvement.

Education Requirements

Bachelor of Science or Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE / MSEE) or equivalent practical experience in VLSI physical design.
