Senior Physical Design Engineer
Role Summary
Responsible for physical implementation and optimization of ASIC blocks and top-level designs for high-speed networking chips, focusing on power, area and performance. Member of the Networking Silicon engineering team, working across RTL-to-GDSII flows and serving as a partition/unit-level technical lead.
Experience Level
Senior β requires 5+ years of experience in physical design.
Responsibilities
Main responsibilities include:
- Perform physical design of blocks and top-level modules under tight power, area, and timing constraints.
- Work on complex designs, including high cell-count and high-speed blocks, and resolve timing and congestion issues.
- Execute RTL-to-GDSII flows: synthesis, power and clock distribution, place & route, timing closure, power and noise analysis, and physical verification.
- Contribute to development and improvement of physical design flows and methodologies.
- Act as a technical leader and focal point at the partition/unit level; coordinate with cross-functional teams.
Requirements
Required skills and experience:
- At least 5 years of hands-on physical design experience, including RTL-to-GDS flows and timing closure.
- Proven experience with PNR, STA, and physical verification methodologies.
- Familiarity with industry EDA tools (examples: Synopsys, Cadence).
- Strong problem-solving skills for timing, congestion, power, and noise issues.
- Effective team player and communicator; able to lead partition-level technical efforts.
Education Requirements
B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
