Senior Physical Design Application Engineer
Role Summary
Senior engineer providing application and field support for physical design flows, focusing on RTL-to-GDS implementation, signoff, and IP hardening. The role interfaces with customers, provides training, and feeds product requirements back to R&D.
Work is customer-facing and technical: troubleshoot implementation issues, run signoff flows, and enable customers to use the product effectively.
Experience Level
Senior. Typical guidance: 3+ years of relevant RTL-to-GDS/implementation and tapeout experience in advanced process nodes.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include direct customer support, implementation work, and collaboration with internal teams to improve the product.
- Provide close technical support to customers and resolve implementation or signoff challenges.
- Train customers on tools and present the technology to technical audiences.
- Work on full implementation and signoff flows for IP hardening (RTL2GDS/implementation and signoff stages).
- Collect and communicate customer feedback to R&D to drive product improvements.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; listed advantages are nice-to-have.
- 3+ years practical experience in RTL-to-GDS / implementation flow with tapeout experience in advanced processes (must-have).
- Experience with Cadence and/or Synopsys physical design toolsets (must-have).
- Strong scripting skills (TCL, Python, Perl) for automation and debugging (must-have).
- Excellent debugging skills and ability to prioritize tasks and issues (must-have).
- English proficiency for customer interaction (must-have).
- Experience with signoff STA / LVS / DRC flows in advanced processes (advantage).
- Customer-facing/application-engineer experience (advantage).
- Soft skills: self-driven, team player, clear communicator (advantage).
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering is specified.
